Warriors Close Season with Victory Over Granite Falls in Defensive Battle

The Skagit Valley Warriors capped off their women’s semi-pro football season with a gritty 11-8 win over Granite Falls in front of a spirited crowd at Mount Vernon High School.

The Warriors wasted no time making a statement on defense. Late in the first half, Tanaya Taylor delivered the play of the game, scooping up a Granite Falls fumble at the 1-yard line and blazing 99 yards the other way for a touchdown. Jenni Stahlecker followed with a successful 2-point PAT run, putting Skagit ahead 8-0 heading into halftime.

Stahlecker continued her impact in the second half, drilling a field goal in the third quarter to extend the Warriors’ lead to 11-0.

Granite Falls mounted a late push, getting on the board in the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass from Ashley Hoge to Samantha Steele, cutting the deficit to 11-8. But the Warriors’ defense held strong in the final minutes, sealing the team’s first win of the season.

With the victory, Skagit Valley closes out its campaign at 1-1.
